CRICKET’S BIGGEST RIVALRY – THE ASHES

The oldest & fiercest rivalry in cricket kicks off today in what could be the most anticipated test series of all time.

Here’s a quick look at what matters heading into Day 1:

  • The Aussies all-rounder debate. How unlucky is Beau Webster – very in my opinion.

  • England – do they go with the express pace of Archer & Wood?

  • The public pressure of Joe Root never scoring a 100 in Australia. I feel he will get 1 or 2 on this tour. He is simply too good not to.

  • A lot of focus on Steve Smith, and now as stand in captain, can he produce a big summer to lead the Aussies to an Ashes victory???

  • I think he will score 500+ runs and the Aussies win 3-1.

THE QUESTIONS… AND WHEN WILL WE FIND OUT THE ANSWERS?

The Ashes always starts before the first delivery… think Starc’s wicket, Harmison’s wide. The cricket world will eagerly be watching that first ball.

It begins with clarity. Will the “Bazball” approach work down under?

For Australia, the top-order conversation is still the biggest talking point. The first hour of this Test will reward players who trust their routines: clear leaves, soft hands, and the discipline to build an innings rather than chase momentum.

Eyes on the debutant, Jake Weatherald who has earned his test debut, and the Aussie crowd will cheer loudly for his first test run.

England’s strength is their middle order of Root, Brook & the impressive Jamie Smith.

Can they put pressure on an undermanned Australian bowling attack?

Can Scott Boland continue his amazing test record at home and lead the attack missing Cummins & Hazlewood

For cricketers watching, how do you watch the professional games?

For fun? To learn? Do you listen to the commentary around field placements and hearing the likes of Ricky Ponting calling the game?

For cricket insights all summer, follow along, especially if you’re a coach, parent or young cricketer wanting practical takeaways.
